I have learned English mainly through reading novels and watching 90’s sitcoms and I thought that I had it nailed but when I wanted to apply to a Master program in English I found out that I required an official certificate like IELTS or TOEFL with a minimum score. I took a practice test and found out that I had issues getting myself understood in speaking form, mainly with the pronunciation of words that I’ve only known in written form.
I surfed the web for techniques to improve quickly my speaking skills and found in a Benny Lewis’ newsletter the recommendation for Glossika. I tried it for English for something like 2 to 3 hours a day for three months as part of my general preparation for the tests and after only two months I found a big increase in my speaking score in the practice tests. (To put numbers I went from 55% to 75% of the max score) I’ve found the material extremely helpful and clear. What I like the most is that I can repeat the parts that I find difficult as much as I require, and that wouldn’t have been possible in a group class. I find the progression challenging enough that I feel the difficulty increase, but not at a level that discourages me.
At the moment, me and my family are planning moving to Germany for a few years and we have been using the Glossika German Fluency Package to prepare ourselves while being outside of Germany. My previous experience with the system has shown me that by following the schedule the effort pays off and my wife shows a lot of improvement in understanding spoken and producing understandable German sentences. And we feel that by focusing in listening and speaking we will be better prepared for our time abroad.
Thanks, Glossika Team
