The Life of a Diffident Student

Jacob Hjerpe

As an avid language learner, but one who really doesn't believe in his own ability to actually learn a language well, Glossika has given me renewed faith in myself, because right out of the box I start talking and saying sentences in languages I never even dared to attempt.

Since I started using the Arabic course for my university studies, it truly helped me to overcome the issues that I was having in pronunciation, and furthermore make me a lot more conversable than my course mates, because of the way that the system truly drills in sentences and structures into your consciousness. I didn’t have to think about every aspect as much, although could do so on instruction when required for complex sentences, whilst everyday speech came a lot more fluently.

Now that I have finished that University course, I instead switched to and am using the Brazilian Portuguese course for my own self-studies, and I feel that the way that Glossika’s structured really lends itself well for self-studying passionate learners, because of the way that it can fit into a daily schedule. I have made my own “three-hour study plan” that I follow every day, where I follow the 90 min/day schedule set by Glossika. It gets me thinking in the language and working on the language in a fun way, and sets a solid foundation to continue with and which I later fill up with vocabulary practice, some exercises from my course book, and occasional private lessons. I can say with certainty that the mass repetition that one gets from Glossika truly naturalizes your mind to think in the language, and to accurately perceive and recognise both structures as well as vocabulary, which initially helps you in your passive knowledge, yet with time I feel that I can repeat the sentences effortlessly, and eventually I now find myself being able to intuitively change the words in the sentences, thus following the pattern of the language, to be able to say whatever I want to say. The product truly delivers on its promise, if you give it the time that it deserves.

Furthermore, I get a better feel for what to focus more on in my other studies, when I do Glossika, as I can see which sentences trip me up even after many repetitions. The most amazing thing with Glossika is that it truly helps you overcome any plateau you may have reached in your learning, provided that you are not at a C1+ level. I’ve recommended Glossika to many of my friends and we all concur – As language learners that can’t live in the country the language is spoken, Glossika is the second-best thing for massive input and immersion, and truly helps you to intuitively grasp your target language better, and to overcome the looming hurdle of fluency. Glossika has given me a way to connect and to work on languages I never before dared, and given me so much joy as a result.

What People are Saying:

“Every language has certain grammar patterns… learn these common grammar patterns, you have a good grounding in the language. Once you recognise these common phrases… you can cope easily with many familiar situations you’ll find yourself in. In a nutshell, Glossika gives you all this foundational stuff on a plate… which is awesome!”

“What makes Glossika really work with my pretty tight daily routines: The "no-nonsense" content - when I put on Glossika recordings - I get comprehensible input right away, even if I haven't touched a certain language for a while. No superfluous explanations in the source language. As a language learner - I found that template phrases just come out intuitively after doing so, and that often I find myself using a word or set phrase without consciously knowing what it mean, but using them correctly.”

“I bought the whole Glossika set for Swedish. I've been really impressed with how far my Swedish has progressed with this product.”
